From finding your leak
to making good.
Understand each step, what happens next and where our specialist service fits in.
Gaston Leak Detection specialises in stages 1 to 3: initial assessment, specialist leak detection and making access to visually confirm the leak. We can also undertake stage 4 repairs in some cases, depending on the work required.
Not every job needs every stage. We explain the recommended next step and the work included in your quotation before you proceed.
We inspect the affected areas, discuss the symptoms you have noticed and assess what further investigation is needed. This first visit helps us identify the most appropriate next step.
To avoid unnecessary delays, we aim to complete Stages 1 and 2 in the same visit where needed and possible. This depends on the investigation, available equipment and your approval of the Stage 2 quote.
We use appropriate testing methods and specialist equipment to locate the leak as accurately as possible. The investigation is tailored to your property and the nature of the suspected leak.
Where access is required, we open up the identified area—for example, beneath a floor, within a wall or under concrete—to expose the suspected leak and visually confirm its source.
Once the source has been exposed and confirmed, the necessary repair is carried out and tested to check that the leak has been resolved.
After the leak has been repaired, this stage restores areas damaged by the leak and areas disturbed or damaged when gaining access. Depending on the work required, this may include plastering, tiling, flooring and decorating.
Once the leak has been located, we recommend involving a claims handling company to help you manage your insurance claim and coordinate the remaining stages, including repairs and making good.
Before appointing a company, confirm the services they provide and any fees. Your insurer remains responsible for deciding cover under your policy.
From stage 2 onwards, work quoted by Gaston is priced on a fixed-price basis for the agreed scope. Each quotation explains the work included for that stage. Any additional work requires a separate quotation and your approval before proceeding. Other contractors confirm their own pricing.
Stages 1 to 3 may fall within your policy’s Trace and Access cover, subject to its terms, limits and your insurer’s assessment. Repairing the leak is a separate cost. Cover for making good depends on your policy, including whether the damage was caused by escaping water or by gaining access. Ask your insurer to confirm cover and any quotation requirements.
